A Brief Overview About Us
The OCAISD was officially established in 1990 and gained nonprofit status under section 501(c)(3) in 1992. Our main goal is to enrich our city’s cultural landscape and empower the community by celebrating and preserving our heritage. We accomplish this through lively festivals, traditional cuisine, and active participation in social and humanitarian efforts. Our emphasis is on delivering vital services that improve health, education, and economic independence while nurturing a strong sense of belonging and promoting meaningful connections across generations. By collaborating with government agencies and other nonprofit organizations, we strive to build a unified and empowered community that values well-being and embraces diversity. We focus on raising awareness of East African events, especially those pertaining to Ethiopia, and providing support for Oromo immigrants through various initiatives, including housing assistance, employment support, counseling, translation services, and guidance on legal and immigration matters. We are dedicated to playing our part by advancing the vibrant cultural diversity that defines San Diego, recognizing its unique blend of traditions, languages, and communities that refine our city’s identity.
